Philippe Jacques LINDER (French, 1835-1914) ✿

Philippe Jacques Linder (1835-1914) was a french poster artist who was born in 1835 in Saarlouis (Saarland), Germany, to French parents.

He was a student of Charles Gleyre, and participated in the Paris Salon from 1857 to 1880. The tones of his canvases are extremely delicate. He followed in the tradition of Honore Daumier and painted genre scenes most often around transport themes such as the omnibus and train. It was an ideal place to observe a varied cross-section of society and the idiosyncrasies of human behavior.
