Jules Joseph Lefebvre (1836 - 1911) was a French painter. Having entered the École des Beaux-Arts in 1852, Lefebvre was a pupil of Léon Cogniet and won the Prix de Rome in 1861 with La morte di Priam. From 1855 to 1898 he exhibited 72 portraits in the Paris Salon. In 1891 he was elected a member of the Académie des Beaux-Arts.
A teacher at the Académie Julian, he had numerous students, such as the Scottish landscape architect William Hart, the Americans Childe Hassam, Frank Benson, Edmund Charles Tarbell and John Noble Barlow, the French Georges-Antoine Rochegrosse and Paul Landowski and the Belgian Fernand Khnopff. He was awarded a first class medal at the Paris Exposition of 1878 and a medal of honor in 1886. He was also commander of the Légion d'honneur.
