Lluís Masriera i Rosés (1872-1958) was a famous artist, goldsmith, jewelry designer, painter, writer, playwright, set designer, art critic and collector, although his best-known facet is that of jeweler, for which he is recognized as one of the most important Spanish artists.
Lluís was born into a family of silversmiths in Barcelona; already his father and grandfather worked in the family business. His training at the Académie des Beaux-Arts in Geneva allowed him to travel regularly to Paris, where he met the Art Nouveau and the work of René Lalique him.
In 1900 Masriera y Roses returned as an 18-year-old to Barcelona and took over the artistic direction of the family business. Radically he changed the style of jewelery design and produced with great success until the mid-1910s with pieces in the style of Modernism, the Catalan Art Nouveau. In his paintings, he used a style inspired by the Nabis and the French cloisonnism style of colorful colors.
