Etienne DINET (French, 1861-1929) ✿

Alphonse-Étienne Dinet (1861-1929) (Nasreddine) was a French orientalist painter. His paintings are very conservative. They are highly mimetic and indeed ethnographic. He was very influenced by the Arab culture and his understanding of Arab culture and language sets him apart from other oriental artists. He loved the desert culture and employed the use of photography for painting. Shortly after the Hajj pilgrimage to Mecca, Dinet died in his native France in 1929.
Today in Bou-Sadda, where he was buried, a museum with his name “Nasreddine Etienne Dinet” stands to pay tribute to this one of the most important and notified orientalist painter of all times.
