Ron MONSMA ✿































Ron Monsma has been painting and teaching for over 20 years. Since exhibiting at the Chicago Art Institute’s prestigious 51st Drawing Competition, Ron has continued his career with numerous awards and solo exhibitions at galleries in Chicago, Indianapolis and Cincinnati and is represented in private and corporate collections throughout the United States and Europe.
In 2000 a number of his works were showcased in the Chinese book Contemporary American Oil Painting. Since that time Ron’s work has appeared in a number of other publications as well including a 2001 feature article in The Pastel Journal which accompanied his receiving the Diane B. Bernhard Gold Medal Award for Excellence. In 2004 he wrote a cover article on metaphor and technique for the November issue of International Artist Magazine and that same month saw his work in The Artist’s Magazine in an article on alternative framing techniques. In 2005 he was included in The Artist’s Magazine again in a September article on contemporary still life painting and in February 2006 The Artist’s Magazine presented a feature article on Ron’s figurative work. Also in 2006 his work appeared in Pure Color, the Best of Pastel published by Northlight Books and in the book 20th Century Indiana Landscape Painters. Ron Monsma is represented by Miller Gallery in Cincinnati Ohio.
Ron has also worked as a successful illustrator; creating works for a number of clients including St. Mary’s College, Memorial Health Systems and Bank of America. In 2007 he created an original work for the Fischoff National Chamber Music Competition.
Most recently Ron was awarded the Jack Richeson Best of Show Award in the 9th Annual Pastel 100 competition sponsored by the Pastel Journal.
Ron Monsma is an Assistant Professor of Drawing and Painting at Indiana University South Bend.
