Paul GAUGUIN (French, 1848-1903) was a French Post-Impressionist Painter and Sculptor. Unappreciated until after his death, Gauguin is now recognized for his experimental use of color and Synthetist style that were distinct from Impressionism. Toward the end of his life, he spent ten years in French Polynesia. The paintings from this time depict people or landscapes from that region.

French painter, sculptor and graphic artist. With Van Gogh and Bernard, Paul Gauguin was the creator of a new conception of painting, and his work was a formative influence on 20th-c. art. Like Van Gogh's, his life has become almost a modern legend.
